Steven Marks and Rob Hazen - Guzman y Gomez

Steven and Rob epitomise the entrepreneurial spirit. They come from diverse backgrounds in managing hedge funds and fashion retail, invested their own money into a venture that lacks an established local market and have become evangelists for a brand that is already expanding from the fast food market into manufacturing. In addition to this, they are faced with an audience that doesn’t understand Mexican cuisine and needs to be educated in the process. On persistence, passion and drive they have now established four stores, a manufacturing warehouse and are rapidly becoming the next big franchising business opportunity in Australia.

This will be another Innovation bay exclusive, as neither Steve or Rob have spoken publically about their journey to date.

Ben Keighran, Bluepulse

We are very lucky to have Ben Keighran, Bluepulse Founder and CEO (www.bluepulse.com) speaking at our Innovation Bay breakfast on Tuesday 11 December.

By focusing on improving communication between real friends, bluepulse is not only the first trusted social network built specifically for mobile, it's also amongst the World's largest mobile social networks. With active users in 167 countries, bluepulse is positioned as a 'social messenger', explained further on bluepulse.com:

"Take the best of a social network, the best of an instant messenger, revolutionise both and combine them to run on anyone's mobile phone. That's a mobile social messenger, that's bluepulse."

Ben is one of Australia's leading entrepreneurs, taking Bluepulse from its seed stage in Australia through a US$6M series A financing with Vantage Point Venture Partners, http://www.vpvp.com/ an early stage My Space investor, in 2007.

With the bluepulse headquarters now based in Silicon Valley, Business Week recently named Ben one of the North Americas Top 25 Young Entrepreneurs under 25 - see http://tinyurl.com/23nmlu.

Ben will be sharing his experience of taking a vision from a 2-bedroom apartment in Sydney to a global business located in YouTube's old office in Silicon Valley. He'll also discuss what's involved in raising venture capital in the world's technology proving ground and relocating a business from Australia to the USA.

This is Ben's only public speaking engagement before heading back to bluepulse HQ and a definite must-see breakfast for anyone interested in innovation, raising venture capital in Australia or abroad, or those looking to relocate a business to the United States.
